Overview

Our company is seeking a qualified and experienced Archaeologist/On-Site Supervisor to lead and coordinate archaeological fieldwork and lab activities. The ideal candidate should be SOI qualified in archaeology, possess good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and be able to organize, plan, direct and task other contractor staff in all aspects of archaeological field work, lab work, data analysis and technical report preparation. The candidate should also have staff supervision experience, coordination and authority, and be proficient in the use of specialized equipment and associated software such as GPS using Trimble Pathfinder Office and Terrasync, GIS (specifically ArcGIS Pro) and computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access) and Adobe Acrobat. The ability to juggle multiple projects and re-order priorities as a result of changing mission requirements is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate archaeological fieldwork and lab activities, including excavation, survey, mapping, and data analysis
  • Supervise and task other contractor staff, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budget, and quality standards
  • Assist with staffing needs, including recruiting, hiring, and training new team members
  • Operate and interpret data from specialized equipment and associated software such as GPS using Trimble Pathfinder Office and Terrasync, GIS (specifically ArcGIS Pro), and computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Maintain accurate records of fieldwork and lab activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and project goals
  • Prepare technical reports, including site descriptions, excavation summaries, and artifact analyses, using appropriate software and templates
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project goals and objectives are met
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources, ensuring timely completion of deliverables and high-quality work
  • Mentor and train junior staff, providing guidance and support as needed

Required Qualifications

  • SOI qualified in archaeology
  • Staff supervision experience, coordination and authority
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in specialized equipment and associated software such as GPS using Trimble Pathfinder Office and Terrasync, GIS (specifically ArcGIS Pro), and computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and re-order priorities as a result of changing mission requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work in remote locations and varying work schedules
  • Master's degree in archaeology or related field is preferred
